Today we looked at our Garden. We were sad to see that some of our plants had been eaten or damaged. We then identified things might damage our garden......

Alex- Rain
Craig-Sun
Amy- Caterpillars
Harrison- People
Matt P- Birds
Kip- Other pests like slugs

Helena noticed that slugs like to eat their greens, including our broccoli plants!

Read our diary entries about our Edible Garden
Today we went to visit our garden. We all looked closely at our garden and made observations:

Helena - "It got bigger and you can see some of the little bits of the potatoes."

Lav - "They were really big and the potatoes are still under the ground."

Alex - "All the plants have grown because it has rained. Some of the plants have fallen down because the rain might have been a bit heavy."

Rebecca - "Some of them have been eaten by caterpillars."

Harrison - "The plants have grown really well."

Wayne - "The plants grew well in the good soil."

Craig  - "Some of them the stems have broken"

Kip - "My potato seed has gotten really big because I saw some sprouts in the ground."

Xavier - "I saw some carrots and potatoes.

Chloe - "That all of them have been growing really fast and some have been eaten by ants or big birds."

Maddie - "Some of the potatoes you can see a plant coming out."

Brianna - "Some of the potatoes have grown sprouts already."

Matt P - "All the plants have grown really fast because it was raining."

Kush - The plants are growing lots of leaves."

Eloise - "I noticed that my carrot was the biggest so far because I grew an extra deep hole."

Nathania - "Some of the seedlings are growing very fast and some have been eaten."

Harry - "My plant was growing really well ... actually the class plants."

Matt H - "There was lots of shade and not enough sun and the other veggie gardens have more sun and it might be stopping our plants from growing."

Arabella - "We did very well planting them and they look very good."

Estelle - "Some of the carrots are sprouting because there is some grass stuff near them."

Amy - "The stalk is growing on the one with the red leaves."

Ashley -  "Room 9's potatoes were sprouting."

Check out our crazy cartoons. We have used our imaginations to create our cartoons and we also had a lot of fun!

Look how creative we are! We brought a vegetable to school so we could sketch it, then we used dye to make these colourful pictures of vegetables....

room 9's edible garden

On Tuesday we planted potatoes, carrots, onions, spinach and soon we will plant beans. We had to plant the potatoes 30 cm apart. Craig took lots and lots of photos of the edible garden and Craig  took some photos of a big worm. Maybe we can eat the plants when they are right and I hope it rains. By Connor.

We were so proud of our selves once we had finished the planting. Now we can't wait for the vegetables to grow so we can eat them!

OUR LEARNING JOURNEY

This term we are learning all about communities. Room 9 will be working as a community as we work together to look after our edible garden. We will also find out how our garden is community aswell.
We have chosen the site for our garden and the caretakers have kindly built the garden for us.

We have thought about what we want to find out about our edible garden this term. Read our questions:

Helena and Amy- "Why do plants need water?"
Maddie and Rebecca- "How do seeds grow?"
Kush and Lav- "How do seeds grow into plants?"
Craig and Kip- "How are seeds made?"
Matt H- "Where do seeds come from?"
Alex and Wayne- "How much water do plants need to grow?"
Eloise and Briana- "How do plants grow?"
Harry and Alex E- "How many times a day do you need to water a plant?"
Arabella and Estelle- "Why do plants need water ad sunshine?"

Mrs Dean was very kind and brought plenty of different seedlings. There was spinach, onions, carrots, broccoli, beans and potatoes.

Look at us all getting our hands dirty, planting the seedlings. Craig has taken photos of us busy planting the seedlings.
